Presenting Research at the UK Catalysis Conference by Ciaran Lahive, University of St Andrews

Submitted on: 21st February 2017

In January I presented the work I have been carrying out as part of the SuBiCat network at the third UK Catalysis Conference (UKCC) organised by the University of Manchester which took place at Holywell Park, Loughborough from the 4th to the 6th of January 2017.

The UKCC has a broad appeal to those working in many areas of catalysis both academic and industrial. Three parallel sessions were run with themes of Organocatalysis, Biocatalysis, Homogenous catalysis and Heterogeneous catalysis to always provide a series of talks to interest everybody. A poster session on the evening of the 5th also covered the full spectrum of catalysis.

The conference was organised around a Hotel and Conference centre with dinners and lunches for all conference attendees being held communally giving ample opportunities to meet the speakers and conference participants between sessions to network and to discuss scientific ideas.

I gave my talk in a session that was themed specifically around biomass conversion and lignin valorisation which included many fascinating other talks and gave an expansive overview of the different approaches being taken to the challenges being faced.
